Excise Tax Refund

Overview:

The IRS has decided that taxpayers no longer have to pay the federal excise tax (a 3% tax) on long distance services beginning August 1, 2006. Additionally, the IRS is allowing taxpayers to request a credit for the amounts paid for long distance service billed to them after February 28, 2003 and before August 1, 2006. The refund or credit must be requested on the taxpayer's 2006 IRS income tax return.

For more Information:

Access One suggest that you contact your tax consultant for more specific information about your rights to a credit or refund for the federal excise tax.

For more information about this issue, please see the "Telephone Excise Tax Refund" link on the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/.

Requests for Copies of Past Bills:

Because records of bills older than three months are not readily available and thus require labor and material expenses for reproduction, there is a charge for duplicate copies of past bills older than three months. For those customers of Access One requiring copies of past bills for purposes of complying with the excise tax refund requirements, Access One will provide copies.
