are experienced individuals who recognized the need for a
telecommunications company to set the standard for customer
service and quality products. This team has a diverse background
and broad range of special skills. Under this team, Access
One has grown organically from a switchless reseller to a
facilities-based provider and has expanded its market coverage
both domestically and internationally.
Brian Barkley serves as Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the strategic direction of the company. Prior to this role, Brian held the role of President at Access One.
After graduating from Iowa State University where he was awarded a full athletic scholarship, Brian began his technology career in 1990. Brian served as a sales representative for Allnet Communications and Metromedia Communications Corporation in Chicago, IL.
Besides holding the role of CEO, Brian also serves the community’s businesses. In 2006, Brian joined the Board of Directors for Chicagoland and Northern Illinois Better Business Bureau.
Currently, Brian lives with his wife Kirsten and twins: Dane and Danica in Chicago, Illinois. He enjoys spending time with his family, collecting antique Cadillacs and occasionally riding his Harley Davidson.
As president and co-founder of Access One, Mark Jozwiak oversees
Operations, Finance/Accounting, Legal, Certification, and
Tax Compliance.
Mark started his career in telecommunications in 1982 as
an inside sales representative with Cable & Wireless and
held several executive sales positions with GTE/Sprint, Metropolitan
Fiber Systems and Bell Atlantic. In 1991, as national account
manager for Allnet Communications, Jozwiak met current business
partners Brian Barkley and Lance Honea.
Mark holds a B.A. in International Relations with a minor
in Political Science and was awarded an Honors Certificate
in Defense and Strategic Studies from the University of Southern
California in 1982.
Lance Honea's role includes overseeing the progress on key supply side (regulatory, vendor, and network) development as it relates to the company's profit and growth goals.
In 1993, Lance co-founded Access One. From 1993 — 2004, he held the general manager and CEO positions. His responsibilities included overseeing day-to-day operations with an emphasis on selling and retaining revenue.
Prior to Access One, Lance held an outside sales position with Allnet Communications. He moved quickly upward within the organization and, more significantly, he learned a great deal and met many fine friends and colleagues including his current Access One business partners.
Lance received his B.S. in Business Administration and Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1990.
As Access One's Vice President of Operations, Jonathan “Mitch” Mitchell
is responsible for overseeing the Network Services, Customer
Operations, and IT departments.
Prior to joining Access One, Mitch held various operational
and technical leadership positions at MCI, MFS Communications,
Worldcom, Telcordia, and Level 3 Communications.
He is a 1990 graduate of the United States Military Academy,
West Point, NY, with a BS degree in Computer Science. He
held various positions as an Infantry Officer in the United
States Army before entering the telecommunications industry
in 1993.
As Access One's Vice President of Finance, Larry Levy is responsible for financial statements, treasury, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cost & margin analyses and risk management. Larry will work with the Operations and Sales & Marketing departments to maximize the profitability of the company.
Larry, most recently C.F.O. of Devine Sports, joined the Access One team in August of 2007. He has over 15 years financial management experience having held managerial positions with Marathon Media, Berryman Communications, HispaniMedia and Chase Broadcasting.
He is a Certified Public Accountant, a graduate of the Pace University Lubin Graduate School of Business with a Master’s degree in Accounting and a graduate of Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
Rick Myers is a seasoned executive sales leader with extensive experience in the competitive telecommunications sector. He brings a wealth of knowledge to Access One with a diverse background in the hardware, software and network services area. In the course of his career, Rick, most recently at Cypress Communications, has been successful in driving sales results for both direct and indirect channels at other companies such as Executone, Allegiance Telecom, and Choice One Communications.
Known for his participative management style, Rick brings a bottoms up approach to goal setting, business planning and accountability. A customer centric focus and disciplined attention to the sales process are his keys to developing a winning team.
Rick earned a BA from Villanova University and a MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Business. He lives with his wife Ellen in Lake Bluff.
Joel Miller has served as Access One's corporate counsel since the company's inception in 1993, and he continues to be responsible for the company's general business and corporate legal affairs.
Joel has over 25 years of wide-ranging experience in corporate, business and commercial matters. Joel received his Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School, and he graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Joel has been an adjunct professor at Carthage College since 1995. His courses include Business Law, Labor Law and Constitutional Law.
Jeffrey Sobek has more than 10 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He joined the Access One team as General Counsel in 2004. As General Counsel, responsibilities include federal and state regulatory compliance matters throughout the United States, the assessment and negotiation of contractual matters such as interconnection and wholesale agreements, litigation, and the management of outside legal counsel.
Jeffrey graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and he received his Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School. In 2008, he was awarded a Master of Laws degree in Information Technology and Privacy Law from The John Marshall Law School.
Jeffrey serves on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Competitive Telephone Companies, a trade association working to advance the interests of fair and open competition and customer-focused service in California telecommunications. He also provides volunteer legal assistance for the Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing in Chicago, Illinois.
